Born on June 28, 1949, and transitioned on February 25, 2026.
Sandra K. Hicks was the beloved daughter of Bob and Clara Yette, and one of six siblings—Janice, Terry, Gary, Paula, and Tony.
She grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, attending public schools and graduating from East High School in 1967. Sandra continued her education at Knoxville College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1975.
She began her career as an educator in the Knoxville school system, teaching in elementary schools for several years. Sandra was committed to lifelong learning, returning to school to earn her master's and doctorate degrees from Carson-Newman College and Kennedy-Western University. In addition to her academic and professional accomplishments, Sandra was an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
She was employed by Knoxville schools' system as an educator in the elementary schools' system. After teaching for several years, she continued her education, earning master's and doctorate degrees from Carson- Newman College and Kennedy-Western University. She retired as Guidance Counselor in 2015.
Sandra was the mother of two children: a son, Michael Kirk, and a daughter, Cicely. During her marriage to James Townes, Sandra gave birth to her daughter, Cicely Townes. Following this marriage, Sandra later remarried to Myles Hicks, who is now deceased.
Sandra leaves to mourn her son Michael Kirk a daughter (Cicely Townes Quince, son-in-law Carlous Quince), grandsons Michael and Michael, two granddaughters Regionna and Jordan. Sisters Janice Yette-Strong, and Paula Yette, brother Terry, sister-in-law Cynthia, brother-in-law William H. Strong, Jr., several nieces and beloved cousin/brother Dr. Ronn Gibbs.
The family will have a memorial service on Saturday, March 28, 2026 @ Rogers Memorial Baptist Church, located at 520 College St, Knoxville, TN 37921.
