Rev. Betty Chandler

Reverend Betty L. Chandler was born November 6, 1933, in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She was the eldest child born to Howard and Gladys Hardin, Sr.  She passed away at home surrounded by her family.  She was married to John Chandler for 73 years; she was a devoted mother of 7 children, and Granny to 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  


Reverend Chandler was a devoted servant of God, a pillar of faith, and a spiritual mother to many.  Her legacy of love, leadership, devotion, and unwavering commitment to the Kingdom of God and to the Fire Baptized Church will forever live in our hearts.  Betty was educated in the Knoxville City Schools, and earned degrees from Draughon Jr. College, cosmetology school and the Living Manna Bible College.  She worked in several capacities as a beautician, secretary, counselor, and substitute teacher at Austin-East High School and Sarah Moore Greene Elementary School.  


She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Gladys Hardin, Sr. Her beloved daughter, Evangelist Johnnye Chandler, Her brother, Howard Hardin, Jr., Sisters, Dora Lee and Jackie Chandler.  Brother-in-Law, Lee Chandler, Son in law, Bishop Alfred E. Williams.


She is survived by husband, John Chandler, sister, Bobbie Hardin, six children: Vicki Chandler, Michael Chandler, Murrell Chandler, Robert (Sandra) Chandler, Diondra Wiliams and Janice Tate, 19 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.  


Reverend Chandler will be remembered for her kind and nourishing spirit, her service to others and her love for the Lord. 


Life Celebration Services for Reverend Chandler will be held at the Greater Mount Moriah FBH Church (2001 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921), Thursday, August 7, 2025, convening with the Family Hour from 5:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Life Celebration Services will begin at 6:00p.m.
