Ralph Moore was born on June 6, 1934 to Willis and Helen Moore. Ralph was the second oldest child to this union, which included two brothers and a sister. Ralph was a very proud graduate of Austin High- School, class of 1952. After high school, Ralph joined the United States Air Forces, where he was a trained meteorologist. After Ralph’s honorable discharge, he returned home to Knoxville, TN. Because of his training in the Air Force, Ralph applied for many jobs to work as a meteorologist but was turned down. So, he became an officer for the Knoxville Police Department in 1966. At the time of his retirement in 1993, Ralph finished his career as a Lieutenant with KPD. After retirement, Ralph spent his free time working and assisting at Jarnigan and Son Mortuary. He would work as a driver, assisting families in their time of grief. He enjoyed his travels to the National Funeral Directors Association conventions each year where he spent time taking pictures and meeting various people from across the country. Ralph was well known for his fancy hats, which he adored so much. He will truly be missed by everyone that knew him.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Helen Moore, his children, Ralph C. Moore, and Michelle Wright, sister, Delores “Dohickie” Smith, brothers, Willis and Jackie Moore, and grandson, Kevyn Wright.
He leaves to cherish his memories sons, Greg (Fatima) Moore and Tony Hecler (Germantown, TN), 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces, Maria Smith (Lexington, KY), Wilma (Donald) Jackson (Montgomery, AL), and Jacquelyn (Pachino) Payne (Atlanta, GA), nephew, Willis Smith (Montgomery, AL), faithful and devoted former wife, Mildred Moore, and many other friends and family to include the staff at Jarnigan and Son Mortuary and the Austin High class of 1952.
Family will receive friends saturday August 5, 2023 from 12 to 1pm at Lennon Seney United Methodist Church,2084 Dandridge Ave, Knoxville, TN 37915, with funeral services to follow. Rev. Dr. Harold Middlebrook Officiating. Entombment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, TN. Final arrangements by Jarnigan and Son Mortuary.
