Melanie Keener

Melanie Marie Keener – Age 74 of Louisville, TN peacefully passed away on August 31, 2026, at her home. She was a devoted wife, stepmother, step-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Melanie was a lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockford, TN where she served in several positions. Including the Steward Board, Class Leader, and Missionary Society President.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee, Melanie relocated to Chicago, IL, where she worked as an Underwriter Manager for Allstate Insurance Company. She returned home during her father’s illness and settled in Louisville, TN with her husband, Alonzo Keener, Sr. Melanie later retired after serving as an Eligibility Counselor for the State of TN.

Melanie was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Alonzo Keener, Sr.; parents, Willie and Marie Scudder, Jr.; and brother, Willie Scudder, III.

Left to cherish her memory are stepchildren: Dwight, Dwayne, Mark, Gail and Felicia; siblings: Michelle (George) Battles; Martha (Jimmy) Scudder; Terrance (Gwen) Scudder; and Stephanie Scudder; sister-in-law, Faye Scudder; as well as a step-grandson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, 3664 Grade Road, Rockford, TN on Saturday, September 5 from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm and the Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow. The interment will be on Thursday, September 10 at 1:00 pm at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike. The Rev. Kamau Kenyatta is officiating.
