Darlene Tate, a cherished soul known for her warmth and humor, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026. Born on August 22, 1964, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Darlene brought joy and love to her family and friends throughout her life.


Darlene was the beloved daughter of Willie Ruth Hunt Lynch and June Hunt. Her life was enriched by the close bonds she shared with her family. Though she faced the loss of her husband, Frank Tate, her dear sister Cynthia Hunt, brothers Michael Hunt and Charlie Hunt, and her aunts Delores Callier and Elizabeth "Dump" Lynch, Darlene remained a beacon of strength and comfort to those around her.


Her legacy lives on through her loving daughters, Shydeshia Adjoura Washington and Yatiemese A. Stewart. Darlene's spirit also continues to be celebrated by her granddaughters, DarryLaisha Dunbar and Ya'Shay Stewart; Grandson, Ja'Shawn Teasley; Niece, Teia Varner, and nephew, Tori Hunt. 


Throughout her life, Darlene was admired for her kindness and her unwavering support of her family and community. Her gentle spirit and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on everyone she met. 


Darlene's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and compassion. Her memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her. As we remember Darlene, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire us all.


The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Jarnigan & Son Chapel, located at 2823 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37914 with a life celebration service to immediately follow.


Final arrangements entrusted to Jarnigan and Son Mortuary.
