Anna Agnew, born September 30, 1959, was a woman whose life carried many chapters—some beautiful, some difficult, but all a part of the story God allowed her to live. She passed away on September 21, 2026. In her younger years, Anna worked as a nurse, caring for others and giving comfort to people during times when they needed it most. That nurturing spirit extended far beyond her profession. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, partner, friend, and a motherly figure to many throughout the Mechanicsville community. Her door, her heart, and her love reached far beyond just her immediate family.

Anna loved people in her own special way. She could make someone feel like family even when they weren’t related by blood. She had a personality and presence that could not easily be forgotten, and so many people have their own stories and memories of “Anna.” She was loved not because she lived a perfect life, but because she was genuinely and completely human.

Anna faced many battles throughout her lifetime. There were seasons when life became difficult and paths that were not always easy to understand. But her struggles were only chapters—they were never the whole story. God knew Anna beyond what anyone could see from the outside. He knew her heart, her pain, her battles, her good days and bad days, and He continued to extend the same mercy and grace that He extends to every one of His children.

Scripture reminds us, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7. And that is how Anna deserves to be remembered: with grace. Not solely for the battles she fought, but for the life she lived, the people she cared for, the family she helped create, and the love she left behind.

For 54 years, Anna shared her life with her longtime partner, Tommy. Their story was filled with years of memories, changes, challenges, perseverance, and love. Through everything life brought their way, Tommy remained a significant part of Anna’s journey. In her later years, when she needed someone to care for her, he stood beside her and cared for her until the very end. Their story is a reminder that real love does not always come wrapped in perfection; sometimes it is found in forgiveness, endurance, growth, and simply continuing to show up for one another.

Anna’s greatest legacy lives within the people she leaves behind—her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the countless people who knew and loved her throughout the years. Pieces of her will continue through them: through stories that will be told, memories that will bring laughter, lessons learned through difficult seasons, and the love that remains even after someone has gone home.

Above all, Anna’s life is a reminder of God’s grace. “And above all things have fervent love among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” — 1 Peter 4:8. None of us walk through this life without falling short, and none of us should be defined by our lowest moments. God’s love is greater than our mistakes, His mercy is greater than our past, and His understanding reaches places human judgment never can.

Today, Anna is remembered in her fullness: the young nurse who cared for others, the mother who raised and loved her children, the grandmother whose blood and legacy continue through generations, the woman who mothered many people within her community, the partner who shared more than five decades of life with the man beside her, and simply Anna—a woman who lived, struggled, loved, laughed, endured, and mattered.

Her story was uniquely hers, and God knew every page before it was ever written. While her earthly chapter has come to an end, the love she planted in this world remains.

Anna was loved. Anna was valued. Anna’s life had purpose. And through God’s grace, her story will always be remembered with love.
