Walter Lee Hayles

Walter Lee Hayles at the age of 77 passed away peacefully at home, March 4, 2024 in Knoxville TN. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was born to Esther Andrews and raised by Robert and Rilla Hayles. Preceded in death by parents and older brother, Charles.

Walter graduated from Ballard Hudson High School in Macon Georgia. He then attended Tuskegee University in Alabama and Fort Valley State in Macon Georgia. 

After school he then enlisted with the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He received a National Defense Service Medal, expert Rifleman, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service medal with 2 bronze service stars. 

Walter married the love of his life, Angelina Williams in 1977. To this union 2 children were born; son, Fernando and daughter, Aisha. 

Walter worked for Allied in Macon, Georgia and was transferred to Knoxville where he retired after 32 years. He loved spending time with his family, working crossword puzzles he truly loved being a member of Payne Ave Missionary Baptist Church with his wife, children, and mother. 

Walter  leaves to cherish his memories his wife: Angelina; son, Fernando (Jennifer); daughter, Aisha; grandchildren: Hanna, Mackenzie, (Alex) and Gavin Hayles of Knoxville Tn; brother, Robert (Gloria) Nelson of Macon Georgia as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to include, Abraham Johnson, Eleanor and Carlesia Manning and the Payne Ave. Missionary Baptist Church family.

Family will receive friends, 11:00- 12:00 noon Wednesday at Payne Avenue Baptist Church; funeral service, 12:00 noon.

Interment Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery, John Sevier Hwy.
