Stewart Francis Grooms Sr, age 65, departed this life, Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Stewart was born, May 13, 1958 in Holly Hill, SC. Shortly after birth, his family relocated to Harlem, New York. Stewart graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and Manhattan Community College.


Stewart spent most of his career as a salesman and recently retired from Twin City Automotive Group after thirteen years of service. Stewart had the gift of gab and was named salesman of the month on numerous occasions. He was a faithful member of Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until his health declined.


He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to many.

Stewart is preceded in death by parents, Bernard and Emily Anderson; sister, Sarah Bradley Weldon; brother, Christopher Cobs.


Celebrating his homegoing are very devoted wife, Edith “Edie” Grooms; sons, Jeremy (Brionna) Grooms, Stewart (Markesha) Grooms Jr; daughters, Arianna Dubose, Chiquita (Trent) Brooks, Shajuana (Travis) Madlock, Talondra (Jamar) Rollings, LaTangla Woodard, Sylvia Woodard; grandchildren, Stewart Francis III, Jeremy Stewart II and McKenzie; brother, Xavier Anderson; sister, Dorothy Moore; mother-in-law, Betty J. Beal; aunt, Janie Green; cousin, Pamela Perkins; special nieces, Tonya (Barrington) Evans, Gabrielle Grooms; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.


No one ever had a negative word to say about Stewart and he held a special place in the hearts of all he met. Stewart was a very positive person who encouraged those he encountered and always welcomed friends and family into his home. He enjoyed all sports especially watching and attending Dallas Cowboys games.


Family will receive friends, 11:00-12:00 noon, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Payne Avenue Baptist Church, funeral service, 12:00 noon, Rev. Richard S. Brown, Jr., Officiating. Interment, Mount Olive Cemetery.
