
Mildred Kelso passed away at her home February 23, 2025. She was a long-time member of Logan Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. She graduated from Austin Highschool, class of ’49. Ms. Kelso worked at Knoxville General Hospital. She started her career in nursing at V.A. hospital in Great Lakes, Chicago, Illinois and then on to V.A. Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. Shortly after that, she spent 10 years at Allen Park, Detroit, Michigan, and then to V.A. in Asheville, North Carolina. Ms. Kelso moved back to Knoxville, TN and worked at Helen Ross McNabb; retiring after 32 years of service.
Ms. Kelso is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence and Katherine Kelso; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Ples Bowman and Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Kelso; sister & brother -n-law, Charlie & Dorothy Hodge, aunts, Lucille, Cleo, Alma, and Hazel Bowman; uncles, Fred, William, Homer, and Frank Bowman; devoted cousin, George Stacy; and friends, Calvin Shipman, and Marion Thomas & family of Toledo, Ohio; godson, Reginald King of Toledo, Ohio.
She leaves to mourn her passing, cousin and caretaker, Wilma Stacy; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends to include her church family.
Family will receive friends Monday March 3, 2025 from 5:30 to 6pm at Logan Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 2744 Selma Ave, Knoxville, TN 37914 with funeral services to follow. Rev. Sam Brown officiating. Interment Tuesday March 4, 2025 at Sherwood Memorial Garden, 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701.
