Jymme Sue Walton Armstrong, age 87, of Powell Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Jymme Sue Walton Armstrong was born on January 23rd, 1939 in Knoxville, Tennessee to John Henry Walton and Margaret L Walton.

Jymme graduated from Austin High School and later went to Knoxville College where she graduated and met her future husband, Earl Armstrong, Jr. Jymme holds the honorable and notable historical distinction of being the first black woman to be hired at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge. She married Earl Armstrong, Jr and they were blessedly married for over 58 years. Jymme was devoted to her family, both immediate and extended, and would do anything within her power to help whenever she could, without question and without any concern for praise or acknowledgment. That humble and generous attitude was felt by everyone she met and no matter how tough the times could have gotten over the years, even for her own self as she got older, she handled them with grace and dignity and a quiet resolve. Jymme was an avid fan of Tennessee Volunteer sports and if you came by to visit then you would not be shocked to see her cheering on the Vols on Saturday in football or in the evenings in basketball, both for the men and women's teams. Jymme also loved her crossword puzzles and those games were apart of her down time when she had the chance. Jymme was also a devoted member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church where she served a deacon and was also a member of the Presbyterian Women Association. Jymme served the church faithfully and did whatever was needed at any time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Armstrong, Jr; parents, Henry Walton and Margaret Walton; brothers John Henry Walton, Lester Marvin Walton, and Joey Frederick Walton.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Kimberly Armstrong of Indianapolis, IN and Marcus (Terri) Armstrong of Knoxville, TN; her stepdaughter, Erica J Armstrong, and her step-grandson, Jimmy O. Young, both of Chattanooga, TN; sisters Joyce Walton of Buffalo, NY, Deborah (Lenwood) Fain of Knoxville, TN, and brother Darryl Walton of GA, special daughter, Marcella Rodgers of Dallas, and all other extended family and friends.
