At the age of 88, Josephine Lucy Chunn went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born, April 15, 1937, in Knoxville, TN, in the community of Mechanicsville, where she grew up in a loving, tight-knit family. Josephine had a resolute faith in the Lord, and through the years she shared her love of Christ with her family, helping shape several generations of Christians in the Smith/Chunn/Moore families.

Josephine was a loving wife, warmhearted mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the epitome of family, being a constant support system at sporting events, theatrical dramas and decades of holiday gatherings.

Most recently, she was a faithful member at Freedom Fellowship Christian Church (Knoxville) and an active Seasoned Saint. She is survived by her loving daughter, Gwen Smith; her devoted grandson and caretaker(s)Thomas Moore (her Ickie Poo) and Lauren Moore. Grandsons; Talib Baah, Maurice Chunn II (Lil’ Buck), and Tobias Dubose. Great Grand-Children; Mia Josephine Moore and MacKenzi Jean Moore. Nephews; Herman T. (Estell) Smith Jr., Athens, GA, Turan (Beverly) Smith, Norfolk, VA, Neice; LeNiece Smith.

She was preceded in death by: A widow of over 40 years to a loving husband Herbert Chunn. Her adoring son Maurice (Stephanie) Chunn. Her Father, Thomas Smith; Mother, Sallie Smith; Sister, Mary-Francis Smith; Brothers, James T. Smith; Ellis W. Smith; Herman T. Smith and Sister, Mattie Smith.

She was a Graduate of Austin High School, Class of 1955. At a time when it was very difficult for black women to excel, she became a CNA and worked at the University of Tennessee Hospital for over 40 years in various capacities, but her biggest impact was on the OBGYN department. Upon retirement, she continued as a nurse for Knox County Schools, providing care at both Sarah Moore Green and Maynard Elementary for 10 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, eating good food at high-end restaurants and being loved by family. She enjoyed her final years living in Wisconsin with her grandson’s family and received exceptional care from Shenecia Davis and Farrah Love, for which her family is eternally grateful.

Nina & Joe, to family and friends, Mother Chunn to church family, Mrs. Chunn to many. Nina’s joy for life left a mark on her family and friends that will be with them for the rest of their lives. The family's faith is resolute as we know she is with her true Father.

On Friday, January 23rd the family will be receiving friends from 6:30-7:00 p.m., and the Funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Freedom Fellowship Christian Church, (4027 Papermill Dr NW, 37909).
