Jacqueline “Jackie” Eldridge Carter, born April 27, 1944, departed this life on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.


Jackie was hard working, and was always determined to do her best and to take care of others. She was a servant everyday to those she knew and even to those she didn’t. Jackie made sure to feed everyone she knew or came in contact with in her life. Jackie retired from the state as well as the Knox County School System. She also worked at Lakeshore Mental Health facility and Children’s Hospital. Jackie enjoyed her yearly travels and vacationing with friends. Jackie was a faithful member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church; where she worked hard to serve the Lord and assist in the growth of the church. She was truly loved by her fellow members and the Butler family.


Jackie is preceded in death by husband, Phillip Carter, parents, Loin and Hazel Eldridge; brothers, Larry “Jap” Eldridge, and Sony and Billy Jackson.


She leaves to cherish her memory, brother, Loin “Pee Wee” Eldridge; devoted cousins, Cherry (Josephus) Thompson and family, Nichole Drake Kirkland and Family, the Smith family of Cleveland, Ohio, a host of in-laws to include, Sheila Carter-Harris and great niece, Anitra Harris, and host of other family and friends to include her church family, Pastor R.O. Butler, Sister Mattie Butler, Angela (Tracy) McEwen, Liz Littlejohn, Nikki Henderson, Sidney Martin, Harper Sellers, and Caroline Mooney.


Family will receive friends Sunday January 5, 2025 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary, 2823 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, Knoxville, TN 37914, with funeral services to follow. Rev Reginald Butler officiating. Interment Monday, January 6, 2025 at 1:00pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
