Janice Fortson

Janice A. Fortson was born January 7, 1956 to the marriage of Mary L. Lee and Lucus Fortson. She departed this life after a long illness on September 28, 2026 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Janice loved Jesus and called upon the name very often. She joined The Greater Bush Grove Baptist Church at an early age as a little girl.

Janice is preceded in death by: her husband, Marcie Mills; mother, Mary L. Lee; sisters, Elizabeth Fulton, Marian Goins, Josephine Winston, Peggy Berry, Mary Murray; brother, Robert L. Maddox, brother-in-law David L. Murray.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Christopher A. Fortson Mills; devoted nieces, Tina Berry and Renee Winston; devoted nephew, Victor Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family is sincerely grateful for the many acts of love and kindness extended during her time of illness and bereavement. The cheerful visits and prayers and personal attention were appreciated. May GOD continue to bless each of you.

Psalm 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Traffic will be controlled by C2C Motor Cycle Club, as well as a host of bikers who enjoy these moments.

The family will receive friends from 11:30am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Jarnigan & Son Chapel, located at 2823 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37914. Interment immediately after service, located at New Gray Cemetery, 2724 Western Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921.
