Gregory attended East Tennessee State University on a football scholarship. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Missouri Baptist University.

Gregory embraced Christ as an adolescent at First United Methodist Church in Mountain City, TN. He served as an Acolyte and was an active member of the Youth Fellowship and the Boy Scouts.
