Evelyn M. Banks


Evelyn Banks , age 75, passed away on May 14, 2024 at Fort Sanders Hospital. 

Evelyn was born on September 1, 1948 to the late Floyd and Carrie Nicholson, Sr. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend.

 

She was a life-long member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she served as a Stewardess.  She was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star, PHA, a member of the Red Hatters Society and Austin High School, Class of 1966. 

 

After graduation, Evelyn lived in Maine and participated in UP WITH THE PEOPLE.  Upon returning to Knoxville, she worked with Job Corp, TN School for the Deaf, KCDC, Eastside YMCA, and various child care programs.  August 1969, she married Albert Paul Banks, Sr. (deceased).

 

Evelyn was passionate about taking care of young children and the elderly.  She was a loyal friend and added joy and laughter to those around her.  Evelyn loved her community and enjoyed sharing recipes and inspirational quotes through social media.

 

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Carrie Nicholson, Sr.; Sisters, Jackie Nicholson and Pansy Crowe; and niece, Carmen Nicholson.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Albert (Stephanie) Banks, Jr. and Duane (Jennifer) Banks, Sr.; sister, Vivian (William) James; brothers, Floyd (Ann) Nicholson, Jr. and Wilton (Martha) Nicholson, Middletown, OH; grandchildren, Albert Banks III, Jayden (Katie) Banks and Duane Banks, Jr. and great granddaughter, Olivia Faith Banks. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Helen and Bernice, nieces: Kim Cullom, Victoria (Tom) Hicks, Karen Cotton and Yolanda Crowe; nephews: William James, Jr., Archie Crowe and Roger James (Beverly) and cousins:  Angela Cherry, David Cherry, Luke Ragin and Juanita Brunson as well as Austin High School, Class of 1966 and Bethel Family.

Sunday, May 19, 2024, the family will receive friends 3:00– 4:00 PM at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 2460 Parkview Ave. followed by a Celebration of Life, Rev. Myron D. Hill, Officiant.  Interment Berry Highland South – Monday, May 20 at 11:00 AM.
