Emma Rogers Winston

Emma Rogers Winston departed this life, October 8, 2024 at NHC Fort Sanders nursing facility. She was born to Mae Etta Hodes and Lewis Rogers in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee on August 13, 1931. Emma, along with her two brothers, Obbie and John, were raised by both her mother and grandmother. Emma was educated in the Knoxville School System.

Ms. Emma had her first and only child, Ronald “Ronnie” Rogers Sr. at a young age. Emma’s aunt helped her raise Ronnie until Emma moved him with her to the Lonsdale Neighborhood. Emma loved Ronnie with her whole heart. He could do no wrong!

Emma married her late husband, Benny Winston on August 15, 1979. During their marriage, Emma worked at National Linen until she retired in 2015. Benny and Emma lived with Ronnie in his Linden Avenue apartment. After Benny’s passing, Emma continued to live with her son until she moved to the Golden Age Retirement Community.

Emma loved to dress nice and travel! She was very dedicated to her church, First Calvary Baptist Church. She loved the conversations on the van rides to and from church.

Emma spent her last years at Fort Sanders Nursing Home, where Ronnie would visit each Sunday before he transitioned to be with the Lord. Emma made many friends during her stay. We thank Fort Sanders Nursing home for the love and compassion that they showed Ms. Emma during her time there.

Emma is preceded in death by her mother, Mae Etta; father, Lewis Rogers; brothers, Obbie and John; son, Ronald “Ronnie” Rogers Sr.; and granddaughter, Rene Jones. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Dwight Rogers, Ronnie Rogers Jr., Teresa Rogers, Tammy Rogers, Lachelle Weaver, Rushia Cooper, Keesha Tate, Mashama Wilson, Anthony Garner, Antwana Garner, Jordan Brunson, Marquez Womble; a host of great-grandchildren; devoted caregiver, Luvernel Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends.
