David Johnson

David H. Johnson, born June 14, 1949 passed away on February 19, 2026 at his residence. His life was not about how he died, but how did he lived. Not, what did he gain, but what did he give? Not, what was his church or his creed? 

David “Herb” completed a graduate business degree, and was an entrepreneur in construction, insurance consulting, as well as the healthcare industry. He united at an early age with Clinton AME Zion Church and worked in several organizations including the Freemasonry. 

David is preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Lila Cox Johnson. Siblings and Brother-in-law Lila & Phil Robinson and Aunt WIllie Mae Green, and Nephew Marcus Chance Johnson. 

He is survived by brothers; William Robert (Mildred), Raymond Anthony (Dessie), niece and nephew Kala, Zenobia and great niece Brooklyn. Cousins; V. Lynn Greene, Ronald Linder, Christopher Linder, and Izaya Linder. Companions & friends; Jamesena Kelley, Bruce Taylor, Charles Taylor, Fred Downs, Geraldine Stoltenborg, and a supporting cast of friends, family and members at the Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 2:00pm to 2:30pm, at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, located at 546 College St., Knoxville, TN 37921 with a service to immediately follow. Rev. Barbara Haigler officiating.
