Carl Edward Bourne was the second child born to the late Theodore and Ruth Bourne in Pulaski, VA on March 4, 1949. He grew up there and attended the local schools. At an early age he accepted Christ at Randolph United Methodist Church.
Carl was a history enthusiast and an avid reader. He lived and worked in New Jersey for a few years. He then moved to Knoxville in the mid 1980’s to assist his brothers Beal and Michael at Jarnigan and Sons Mortuary. He enjoyed assisting families, managing the front desk, and anything he could to comfort families in their bereavement. He also worked at the Happy Store in Knoxville for a while.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers William “Fuzzy” and Michael Bourne, and sister-in-law Joyce Martin-Bourne. Carl departed this life Sunday, December 21, 2025 at The University of Tennessee Knoxville Medical Center.
Those remaining to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, of 45 years; Doris Kellogg Bourne, siblings; Beal (Peggy), Everett (Rosemma), Tommy (Odessa), John (Nora) and Annie, nieces: Elizabeth “Libby” Bourne, Adrianne Thompson, Andrea Fowler, Elizabeth (Fred) Pope, Simone Barnett; special devoted niece Melody (Benjamin Jr.) Bourne-Jackson, nephews; William (Tasha) Bourne, Miguel (Megan) Bourne, Troy (Melissa) Wright, devoted nephew John (Christal) Bourne; special and devoted great niece and nephew whom he considered his grandchildren; Kayla and Benjamin Jackson; a host of cousins to include Mattie Cash; sisters-in-law Terri Brooks, Phyllis (Paul) Gilbert, and Angela Bourne; devoted sister-in-law, Sharon Kellogg, brothers-in-law, John and Ronald Kellogg. devoted godchildren; Frederick Waogner, Sabrina Hill and Doris Williams-Rodgers, devoted friends; Gloria Willliams-Rodgers, Barabara Smith, Vickie Curry, Beverly Ward and family, Mary Mason, Lisa Wagoner, and Montrose Streeter; friends to include the staff of Jarnigan and Sons Mortuary and Angela Hamstead.
Family will receive friends Saturday January 3, 2025 from 11 to 12 pm at Lennon Seney United Methodist Church, 2084 Dandridge Ave, Knoxville, TN 3791, with funeral services to follow. Rev. Dr. Harold Middlebrook officiating. Rev Joel Miles Eulogist. Entombment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
